Live Daytona 500 Driver/Crew Communications - 2/16/03!

On 2/16/02 I will be broadcasting Daytona 500 Driver/Crew communications. If you happen to log in before the race starts you most likely will be listening to Daytona Beach International Airport frequencies or possibly Daytona Beach Police & Fire frequencies.

I live about 2 miles south east of the Daytona 500 Track. I thought this would be something different to listen to. The radio comms you are hearing are coming from a Uniden BC 780XTL scanner connected to an Create Log Periodic Beam antenna. CLICK HERE to see a picture of my complete listening station.

A note about listening to my live audio. When you click on the link below please allow enough time for your computer to start the correct audio software. Depending on your internet connection and computer speed this could take up to 2 minutes.

Improvements over Last years Daytona 500 & Pepsi 400 race comms!. I've added a 4 input audio mixer allowing me to select one of 4 scanners or any combination of 4 scanners at once. During the Bud Shootout (2/15/03) I used this system with great success.

I plan on trying to keep the crew of the first and second place drivers locked into scanners 1 & 2 of which will be broadcasting simultaneously. I'll use scanner 3 to scanner the other crew/drivers in an attempt to look for interesting comms, if found I'll mix that audio into the broadcast. The final scanner connected to the audio mixer will be scanning NASCAR Officials as well as track fire and wrecker crews. When anything of interest is heard on those freqs I'll mix them in with the broadcast.

Near the end of the race I will try to lock the scanner on the frequency of the driver in the lead. Then you'll be able to hear the driver and crews first words as they cross the finish line. During the qualifying races this week it was really exciting to hear those first words coming from the crew and drive as they cross the finish line!

Terrorism Notice: In the event of any act of terrorism during the race we will switch our live scanner broadcast from the race and monitor Daytona Police or any Miliatry Air Traffic Comms including Combat Air Patrol aircraft if called into service.

Thunderstorm Notice: In the event of thunderstorms in the area of the raceway we may discontinue our broadcast as to not put our radio/computer equipment at risk.

Rain Delay Notice: In the event of a rain delay (not associated with a thunderstorm) we will be broadcasting one of the following 1)NASCAR Officials, 2)Daytona Air Traffic, or 3) Daytona Police/Fire, which ever has the most activity at the time of the rain delay.
