Jetty Park located in Port Canaveral, FL is my favorite spot to go to view expendable rocket launches. This area
puts you within 4 miles of many of the launch pads. This is the closest you can get without being on
NASA property. From this location you can feel the ground shake and feel the sounds shock waves pound
against your body.
During the Summer of 2003 I was viewing a launch and there happened to be a sub departing the port prior to
launch. Located at the port is what is called the Trident Basin. Basically this is a docking area
for subs. Howeve during rocket launches there is what is known as the "No Nuke" rule. Basically it
means that no nuclear powered vessels or vessels carring nuclear weapons are permitted in the Port Canaveral area.
Below is a picture I managed to get of a sub as it departed.
